I can be excused somewhat for not blogging for a while as the wedding took some time for preparation (buying rings two days before wedding) and clean up (last Irish person left two days after wedding).
We have also been presenting the Attentio proposition to an increased audience, this week has been especially busy. For example on Monday we were in Berlin presenting at the Eye4Travel event, “Sales and Marketing in Travel”. There were 150+ people from the travel world and we were on the panel with Trip Advisor, Igougo, Travel Fusion and Yahoo. Our session focussed on the impact of social media in travel and business benefits there in.
It is clear that the levels of conversations are very high regarding travel experiences. Trip Advisor spoke of over 5,000,000 posts on their site and how this has ramped from 1,000,000 in 2004. Igougo also have a very dynamic community and seem to focus more on the independent traveller.
Every industry has special social media stories. These are the examples that companies like us use to highlight the impact of this media. My favourite was seat 29E which is the travel experience of a passenger on Continental Airlines – the video on Youtube explains his less than favourable trip beside a toilet and how he is brushed continually by people’s backsides… Lovely… Still thousands of people (8,600+ as of today) have downloaded this clip and it is not favourable publicity for the company.
In my presentation I outlined the three main steps for companies in engaging in social media. We also showed how our dashboard paints the picture of brand comparison, sentiment tracking and cross region analysis. The three steps as presented -
1.) Measuring to see if the brands are being discussed in these forums – what is our visibility how do we compare to the competition?
2.)Â What issues are being raised – if we are being discussed what is top of mind, what forums create the most conversations?
3. ) Deciding on how to interact – who are the influencers, do we engage, provide information, write our own blog or create our own forum for discussions.Â
In conclusion it was a great event, now today we present at Hyperthinker and StoneFund ICT day is tomorrow. On Saturday Shel Israel/Rick Segal roundtable and bloggers lunch is on Saturday, truthfully Kris from Microsoft has been the driving force in getting such a great group of people together – it should be fun…

Dear Simon, you were a speaker at the Eye for Travel sales and marketing event in Berlin on Oct 16, where I also spoke, but we didnt meet in person. Your presentation was very interesting and if possible I would like to ask you for a copy. Would also be interested to learn from you how a company like Ixeo could take advantage of the social media and if there is a buzz in its specific market place. That market place is a b2c platform for consumers and travel agents to book life style segmented travel and a b2c plaftorm/network and booking engine for other travel suppliers that wish to offer such dynamic packaging travel to their own clients (i.e. airlines, hotel chains etc). Thanks, Kostas Trivizas
